Saturday March 18th
#10 Penn State @ #2 Texas – 7:45pm ET
My first pick for this game is for the Texas Longhorns, Marcus Carr. He has been great for Texas all season long as he comes into the second round matchup as their leading score. He is averaging nearly 16 points per game, and I expect him to have a solid performance in this one as the Longhorns look to advance to the Sweet 16 next week. And they’re opening round victory over Colgate, Carr scored 17 points and then they’re big 12 tournament loss Carr scored 17 points as well so he has been extremely consistent over the last couple weeks. I expect him to keep up that consistency and go over his total points in this game.
My second pick for this game is for the second seeded Texas Longhorns to pick up the victory and cover the spread against the tenth seeded Penn State Nittany Lions in this second round matchup on Saturday evening. Texas had very little problems with Colgate just like Penn State had very little problems handling Texas A&M in their opening round matchups. I have a feeling this game is going to be close throughout but in the end I look for Texas to pull away and get themselves a solid victory over a very respectable Penn State team that made it to the finals of the Big Ten tournament.

#8 Maryland @ #1 Alabama – 9:40pm ET
My first pick for this game is for Alabama’s Brandon Miller. Despite all the controversy surrounding him, the freshman has been one of the best scorers in the nation this season, and I expect that to continue in this game. He averages just over 19 points per game on the year and I look for him to have a stellar performance against Maryland to try and get Alabama to the Sweet 16 as the number one overall seed. I can easily see Brandon Miller, taking over this game down the stretch, and leading Alabama to a victory.
My second pick for this game is for the number one seeded Alabama Crimson Tide to pick up the victory and cover the spread against the eighth seeded Maryland Terrapins in this second round matchup on Saturday evening. The Crimson Tide looked unstoppable in their first round matchup while Maryland went down to the wire with West Virginia. I expect this one to be a little less competitive as I look for Alabama to get themselves a comfortable victory to advance to the tournament’s second week.

Sunday March 19th
#11 Pittsburgh @ #3 Xavier – 12:10pm ET
My first pick for this game is for the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Xavier Musketeers to combine to go over their total points in this game on Sunday afternoon. Both of these teams have been involved in some high scoring games this season. It looked like everywhere you turned Xavier was putting up 70+ points, and Pittsburgh was grinding out wins with solid offensive performances as well. Pittsburgh used an incredible offensive performance to knock out Iowa State during their first round matchup as they raced to a hot start. Meanwhile Xavier battled back from double digits down to avoid being upset. I expect a high scoring affair in this one that goes down to the wire.
My second pick for this game is for the third seeded Xavier Musketeers to end the solid run of the eleventh seeded Pittsburgh Panthers and advance to the Sweet Sixteen. As solid as Pittsburgh has looked over the first two games their tournaments run, at the end of the day fatigue eventually catches up to you. They’ve now gone down to the wire twice in the matter of five days and I just simply expect them to run out of gas in this one against a fast paced Xavier team. As I look for Xavier to use their explosive offense to put themselves into next week’s sweet 16.

#6 Kentucky @ #3 Kansas State – 2:40pm ET
My first pick for this game is for the Kentucky Wildcats, Oscar Tshiebwe. He will be vital in the result of this game. If he puts out a good performance, Kentucky could find themselves in the Sweet 16 after so many people have counted them out this season. He is a double double machine for the Wildcats as he averages 16 points per game and 13 rebounds per game both of those statistics lead the team this season. While he wasn’t extremely effective scoring the basketball during their first round victory over Providence, he was absolutely effective on the boards as he recorded 25 Rebounds. I looked for him to record a double double in this game.
My second pick for this game is for the sixth seeded Kentucky Wildcats to pick up the victory in this second round matchup against the third seeded Kansas State Wildcats. Both of these teams looked decent in their first round victories over Providence and Montana State, respectively. Now this one is the battle of the Wildcats as they will face off for a berth in the Sweet 16 next weekend. Kansas State has been solid this season and got themselves some big victories throughout the year, but at the end of the day Kentucky is Kentucky and I think their talent is what will put them over the top in this one.

#16 Fairleigh Dickinson @ #8 Florida Atlantic – 7:45pm ET
My first pick for this game is for Florida Atlantic and Fairleigh Dickinson to combine to go over their total points in this second round matchup. Both of these teams were incredible on the offensive end in their first round games, and they both scored upsets; however, one was more historic than the other. I expect a similar performance from both of them when they meet up in the second round as I expect this one to be a high scoring back-and-forth affair as both teams look to clinch a spot in the Sweet 16.
My second pick for this game is for the sixteenth seeded Fairleigh Dickinson Knights to upset the eighth seeded Florida Atlantic Owls. I expect a Cinderella story to continue into next week as I look for Fairleigh Dickinson, the score of the second upside of the weekend after already knocking off number one seeded Purdue in the first round. Usually when you see a massive upset like that the next game tends to be an emotional let down but I can’t see that happening in this one as I think the night, so shocked the world once again to become the first 16 seed to ever play in the Sweet 16.
